Headteacher's Welcome Message

Thank you for your interest in Hardwick Primary School.

Our website is effective for the school year 2010/2011 and is designed to give you an indication of what we hope is a real family school. We attempt to create a happy atmosphere for living, working and playing together, whilst at the same time providing our children with a sound grounding for life.

Hardwick Primary School was opened in 1969 and extended in 1994. Our brand new Foundation Stage outside learning area was completed in September 2007 and in 2008 we will be remodelling large parts of the school to further enhance our facilities to the most up to date standards. We cater for children aged 4 - 9 years old, serving Hardwick Lane, Sicklesmere Road and the Nowton, Home Farm and Bury Park Estates. We operate an Open Admissions Policy; accepting both catchment area children and those whose parents have exercised their parental choice.

At present, including our Nursery, we cater for approximately 210 pupils. Children attend Nursery for three (and sometimes four) terms prior to admission to Main School that is at the beginning of the term during which they attain their 5th birthday.

Class groupings include in the region of 20 - 28 children per class, in eight class bases (seven during the autumn term). Our Nursery is Local Authority funded for up to 39 children, split into either morning or afternoon sessions. We are privileged to have one of the three Language Units in Suffolk, which specialises in educating children with specific language disorders.

At the end of Year 4, the majority of our pupils transfer to Hardwick Middle School. We enjoy very close links with this and other middle schools, so that the children who transfer are known by their receiving school.

We hope that our website provides you with the information you require. However we firmly believe that there is no substitute for seeing the school at work. So, if you'd like to come in and visit, preferably along with your child, then you'll be very welcome. Please don't hesitate to contact me through the School's administration team, should you wish to discuss any matter further.

Yours sincerely,

P S Dewhurst
